The Zadroga bill passed the House of Representatives. The bill is for emergency workers and salvage personnel linked to the September 11, 2001 attacks. Many of the people who responded to the site inhaled dust, fumes, and other particles. James Zadroga was a police officer in NYC, and was among the first on the site. Inhaling those toxic materials may have caused Officer Zadroga’s death.
House passed the Zadroga proposal
The James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act is also known as the Zadroga bill. The House of Representatives finally passed it. The bill passed 268 to 160. The New York Times reports that $7.4 billion will be spent on the James Zadroga bill. About $3.2 billion of the money could be used to help those from Ground Zero. Any illnesses or injuries from it can be looked into. New York City will chip in for 10 percent of the costs. A September 11 Victim Compensation fund would be set up also with about $4.2 billion in that.
A contentious law
This isn’t the very first time the House saw this bill. It had been seen once before. It had to have two-thirds majority in order to pass when it came at first in July. That did not end up taking place. The bill was introduced that way as a result of republicans. An amendment made it so the rules were in place. The original James Zadroga act would have made it so illegal immigrants weren’t getting any of the benefits from it. Also, James Zadroga is another issue of controversy. When doing the autopsy, the examiner said that September 11 violence did not really cause his passing. The first bill had Anthony Wiener and Peter King fighting over it very strong and hard.
September 11 survivors
Severe health effects are harming the survivors of the September 11 violence along with the response and cleanup crew. Medical care is being given to 60,000 of these people. They were all affected by the very same thing.
